A word we love to say
And don’t know how to practice.
Keep us from the kind of over-sharing
That can harm more than help.
Self-pity just looks like selfish, God.
Sometimes we are our own worst enemies.
Keep us also from not sharing enough.
People need to know we’re human.
We’re all weak, and sometimes it’s nice to know
That someone else is too.
Time, place, and context, Lord.
Help us to know how our pain
Can serve the hearers.
We want to be strong, yet dependent.
Struggling, but making progress,
Identifiable, not pitiful.
